This program has been developed by Mary Ellen Copeland and people who experience mental health and other health and lifestyle challenges. Individuals learned that they can identify what makes them well and then use their own Wellness Tools to relieve difficult feelings, maintain wellness and a higher quality of life. The result has been recovery and long-term stability. The WRAP® program is designed by the individual in practical, day-to-day terms and holds the key to getting and staying well. It does not necessarily replace traditional treatments but can be used as a compliment to any other treatment options chosen.In developing a WRAP®, wellness tools are chosen that will most benefit the individual. WRAP® helps an individual notice when things seem to be off balance in their life and help coordinate effective ways to get back to feeling better. WSM program is based on Illness Management and Recovery (IMR), a nationally- recognized, evidence-based practice for adults with mental health issues. In addition to IMR-related topics such as recovery, mental health wellness and relapse prevention, the WSM approach includes lessons emphasizing the connection between physical and mental health. It may be helpful to think of WSM as a comprehensive curriculum that covers many topics that provide information, knowledge and skills that help people to make decisions that support recovery. This trauma survivor’s group teaches specific skills for coping with the problematic after-effects of past and present trauma. Through self-awareness development skills, this program empowers trauma survivors with an understanding of how to deal with stress responses. By learning a variety of skills and techniques, group participants are able to select and make use of various tools to develop a self-understanding to explore areas of their life they may want to change. safeTALK is a 3-hour alertness workshop that prepares anyone over the age of 15, regardless of prior experience or training, to become a suicide-alert helper. Most people with thoughts of suicide don’t truly want to die, but are struggling with the pain in their lives. Through their words and actions, they invite help to stay alive. safeTALK-trained helpers can recognize these invitations and take action by connecting them with life-saving intervention resources. This training is designed to teach parents, family members, caregivers, teachers, school staff, peers, neighbors, health and human services workers, and other caring citizens how to help an adolescent (age 12-18) who is experiencing a mental health or addictions challenge or is in crisis. Youth Mental Health First Aid is primarily designed for adults who regularly interact with adolescents. The course introduces common mental health challenges for youth, reviews typical adolescent development and teaches a 5-step action plan for how to help young individuals in both crisis and non-crisis situations. Topics covered include anxiety, depression, substance use, disorders in which psychosis may occur, disruptive behavior disorders (including AD/HD), eating disorders and more. This training is appropriate for anyone 18 years and older who wants to learn how to help a person who may be experiencing a mental health related crisis or problem. This training is a public eduction program that introduces participants to risk factors and warning signs of mentall illnesses and builds understanding of their impact. This 8-hour course demonstrates how to offer initial help in a mental health crisis, connect persons to the appropriate professional, peer, social, and self-help care. The program also teaches the common risk factors and warning signs of specific types of illnesses, like anxiety, depression, substance use, bipolar disorder, eating disorders, and schizophrenia. Hearing Voices That Are Distressing is a training in which participants use headphones for listening to a specially designed recording. During this simulated experience of hearing voices, participants undertake a series of tasks including a psychiatric interview, cognitive testing and an activities group in a mock day-treatment program. The simulation experience is followed by a debriefing and discussion period. This training is for a wide-range of people, including but not limited to: law enforcement, criminal justice personnel, inpatient/outpatient psychiatric nurses, psychiatrists, social workers and psychologists; direct care workers in residential, day-treatment and psychosocial rehabilitation programs; mental health administrators, family members, friends; academic faculty and students.
